Industrial training institutes (ITI) and industrial training centers (ITC) is a qualification and are post-secondary schools in India constituted under the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Union Government, to provide training in various trades.
ITIs are government-run post-secondary schools in India that offer technical and vocational training in various trades.
Who they train -
ITIs train high school students and graduates in a variety of industries, including engineering, electronics, manufacturing, and construction.
What they offer -
ITIs offer courses that can take six months to two years to complete. Courses can be divided into two types: engineering programs and non-engineering programs.
How they prepare students -
ITIs aim to prepare students for specific roles in industries by developing their skills and providing them with the knowledge they need.
How they assess students -
After completing their training, students take the All India Trade Test (AITT). Qualified students receive a National Trade Certificate (NTC).
How they are affiliated -
ITIs are affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT), a statutory body under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
Where they are located -
There are many ITIs across India, both governmental and private.
Eligibility Criteria for ITI -
To enroll in ITIs or Industrial Training institutes, students must follow certain eligibility criteria. The criteria is as follows:
At the time of admission, the candidate’s age should be somewhere between the ages of 14 and 40 years.
The applicant must have managed to gain a passing mark in 10th grade from any reputed and reliable board.
The student should have received a score of 35% in the tenth exam.
Types of Courses
Majorly, ITI courses can be divided among two parts, which are engineering and non engineering courses. Engineering programmes are trades that demand technique. They emphasize topics in technology, engineering, science, and Mathematics. Non-engineering courses are typically not of a technical level. Languages, soft skills, and other industry-specific generic skills and knowledge are their main areas of focus.
